Prep and Indigenous Support Teaching Position
School District 10 (Arrow Lakes) has the following temporary teaching position for the 2025-2026 school year:
Position: Prep and Indigenous Support Teacher
School: Burton Elementary School (and occasionally Edgewood Elementary School)
FTE: 0.50 FTE - Temporary
Effective: September 2025 to June 30, 2026
Salary Range: $63,1+2 - $112,685 (based on 1.0 FTE)
School District 10, in the beautiful West Kootenay region of southeastern BC is situated on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Sinixt Peoples. Required qualifications / skills include:
A valid Teaching Certificate from the BC Teacher Regulation Branch
Course work specialization and pedagogical knowledge in early literacy and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), diversity/ inclusive education, social emotional learning (SEL), self-regulation.
Ability to plan and design engaging learning activities using the BC curriculum
Undergrad or postgraduate diploma or coursework in Indigenous Studies and Aboriginal Education would be an asset
Interest in engaging and learning from local Elders, Indigenous communities, and Aboriginal Education Councils
Successful experience co-planning and co-teaching for student success
Commitment and expertise in building relationships with parents and community
Excellent classroom management skills and proven ability to engage all learners
Commitment to implementing the School Growth Plan and to collaboratively designing school and classroom learning environments
Demonstrated understanding of indigenous cultures and experience integrating First Peoples Principles of Learning into teaching practice
Excellent ability to differentiate for all learners and co-plan for diversity and engagement
Professional learning inquiry experience that informs professional practice
Willingness to participate in school and/or district Professional Learning Communities will be an
asset
