The Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University is a leader in global IT research and education, attracting top students worldwide. It offers accredited courses that produce highly skilled IT professionals ready to work globally. The faculty's multidisciplinary research is innovative and impactful, with a focus on both technical advancements and real-world applications. The Department of Human Centred Computing (HCC) plays a key role in shaping the digital future, specializing in data visualization, interaction design, and immersive analytics. Their research explores how technologies like AR and VR can improve collaborative decision-making and data analysis. Monash also champions diversity, gender equity, and women in STEMM through initiatives like the STEMM Women Academic Network (SWAN).

We are currently hiring a Software Developer to join the SoundSmiles project. This position involves the design, development, and maintenance of software applications for SoundSmiles, a digital tablet-based app aimed at engaging primary school children in their mental and hearing health. The role will require close collaboration with the SoundSmiles development team, users, Indigenous stakeholders, and schools to deliver this vital technology.

The Day to Day responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Collaborate with healthcare professionals, educators, and Indigenous community representatives to gather specific requirements and insights.

Design, develop, and manage software solutions that are accessible and user-friendly for children to support healthy ears, strong hearing and mental wellbeing.

Lead a team overseeing the software development life cycle from concept to deployment.

Ensure the software is compliant with relevant health regulations and cultural considerations.

Regularly test software solutions with end users and stakeholders to gather feedback and make necessary adjustments.

Prepare technical documentation and user manuals to support the software applications.

Design user experiences by improving digital and offline tasks, ensuring usability and accessibility, creating prototypes, and applying consistent branding and design guidelines.

Travel to community locations in Western Australia as required for research, testing, and deployment of software tools.



The successful candidate will have:

A degree in computer science, software engineering, or a relevant field with experience and ITIL Foundation certification.

Extensive experience and management expertise in technical/administrative fields, or an equivalent combination of experience and education/training.

Demonstrated experience in the delivery of quality software development practices, including application development, identification of test needs, testing and testing techniques, web development tools, configuration/release management, coding standards, code reuse and documentation.

Advanced skills in core technologies and one or more core programming languages e.g.C#, Javascript, Java, PHP, Perl, C++ coupled with a strong working knowledge of Agile methodologies, SDLC, cloud based services, SQL, MySQL, Postgres.

Highly developed planning and organisational skills, with experience establishing priorities, implementing improvements and meeting deadlines.

Demonstrated relationship management and consulting skills, including the ability to interact and negotiate with a diverse variety of customers and stakeholders.

Strong analytical and evaluation skills and the ability to problem solve in a test environment.

Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to provide advice and effectively prepare and present complex information.

Knowledge of Australian health regulations and data privacy laws relevant to software development.
