The Learning Disabilities Association of York-Simcoe (LDAYS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for individuals with Learning Disabilities (LD). We provide leadership in LD research, education, and services to advance the full participation of children, youth, and adults with LD in society.

About SEAC:

Each school board in Ontario has a Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) composed of trustees and representatives from local organizations. These committees:
• Offer guidance on special education programs and services.
• Participate in reviewing plans and proposing changes that enhance the educational experience for students requiring special education.
Role Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and committed volunteer to serve as LDAYS’ SEAC Alternate Representative for the SMCDSB. This role involves attending meetings, advocating for students with Learning Disabilities, and keeping LDAYS informed about important developments within the school board.

Responsibilities:

• Inform SEAC members about LDAYS initiatives, programs, and events.
• After meetings, provide updates to LDAYS about any relevant information, such as changes within the board, new programs, or any other developments.
• Positively represent LDAYS, contributing to discussions, and providing input on the enhancement of special education plans and policies as needed.
Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible to serve as a SEAC member or alternative, you must:

• Be at least 18 years old.
• Reside within Simcoe County.
• Be of Catholic faith.
• Have attended, or have a dependent who attended, a Catholic school.

Time Commitment:
• Attend approximately 10 meetings annually from September to June, on Wednesday nights.
• Dedicate about 2 hours per month, including meeting preparation, attendance, and follow-up activities.
Why Volunteer with LDAYS?

By becoming a SEAC Representative, you will:
• Champion meaningful change for students with learning disabilities, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
• Gain valuable experience in education advocacy and policy development.
• Collaborate with passionate professionals and key stakeholders who are committed to advancing equity and inclusion in education, shaping policies that impact the future of students.
• Be part of a movement that is making a real difference in the lives of students and the educational landscape.
