General: The Department of Literacy, Early, Bilingual, and Special
Education in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development
is accepting applications for a tenure track position in the
Special Education Program in the area of mild to moderate or
extensive support needs disabilities at the Assistant Professor
rank with a Fall 2025 start date. The successful candidate will
have knowledge of pedagogical theories and instructional practices
and characteristics of inclusive programs for the instruction and
assessment of students with predominantly mild to moderate or
extensive support needs. The successful candidate will teach
courses primarily in the Mild/Moderate or Extensive Support Needs
Specialization, including assessment, curriculum, and instruction,
as well as introductory courses in Special Education. The
successful candidate may also have the opportunity to serve as the
program coordinator for the special education program, contributing
to the leadership and development of these initiatives. Course
topics may encompass inclusion models, universal design for
learning, accessibility, transitional strategies, assistive
technology, behavior interventions (such as positive behavior
supports, applied behavior analysis, and functional assessment),
effective communication and collaboration, special education law
and policy, and research methods in special education. The position
also requires fieldwork supervision, master’s thesis project
supervision, and student advisement. Specific assignment is
dependent upon departmental needs. The successful candidate will
teach in face-to-face, online, and hybrid university and partner
school site classrooms with the aid of technology and web-based
materials.
Overview: Teacher Education was established as the first degree at
Fresno State in 1+11. The Kremen School has been nationally
accredited (NCATE) since 1+54 offering 34 distinct credentials,
many Master’s Degree programs, and a Doctorate in Educational
Leadership. In 2013, the Kremen School was nationally recognized
for its partnership work with regional districts and by AACTE
earning the Outstanding Character Moral and Ethical Development
award. Fresno State has special education credentials in
Mild/Moderate, Extensive Support Needs, and supports the elementary
and secondary credential programs in areas such as disability
studies, universal design for learning, multi-tiered systems of
support, and inclusive education.

Qualifications:
Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign
equivalent):
• An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Special Education or
closely-related disciplines from an accredited institution (or
equivalent) is required OR
• Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be
considered; however, for appointment, the doctorate must be
completed by August 1, 2025.
Required Experience:
• Demonstrate successful public or private school teaching
experience with students with diverse learning needs and strengths,
including those requiring mild to moderate or extensive
support.
• A demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and
supportive environment that values and celebrates diversity in
ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Three or more years of teaching experience in Birth-12 Special
Education (mild/moderate or extensive support needs settings)
and/or general education,
• Experience partnering with general education teachers to design
and deliver inclusive instruction.
• Engagement in professional activity, research, and scholarly
writing.
Preferred Qualifications :
• Demonstrated success in teaching at the university level,
• Experience in program administration or development, including
the pursuit of internal and external funding,
• Community involvement.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience the anticipated
hiring range is $6,250-$6,775 per month $75,000-$81,300 annually
for Assistant Professor (12 monthly payments per year). As a member

About the College and Department:
The Kremen School of Education and Human Development’s (KSOEHD)
mission is recruitment and development of ethically informed
leaders for classroom teaching, education administration,
counseling, and higher education. Our programs are accredited by
the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation
(AAQEP) and the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing
(CCTC). Together, the programs aim to foster candidate dispositions
of collaboration, valuing diversity, critical thinking, ethical
judgments, reflection, and lifelong learning. Our mission is

unique teacher residency models with urban and rural district
