JOB TITLE: Staff Accountant
BRAND: Corporate – Shared Services
REPORTS TO: Manager of Accounting
FLSA STATUS: Full-time; Exempt
SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the month-end close process and financial statement preparation. This role is responsible for applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements and maintaining internal controls over financial reporting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares and analyzes each department's P&L within the assigned division (Corporate, HCN, HCA or HCWS).
Performs month-end accounting responsibilities including journal entries, accruals, prepaids and other general accounting.
Prepares monthly MD&A for the assigned division.
Prepares assigned balance sheet account reconciliations monthly.
Periodically reviews invoice coding to ensure accuracy.
Performs periodic ad-hoc reporting and analysis as it relates to assigned division.
Dependent on division, this could include reporting on corporate vendor spend, HCWS vendor partner metrics, and/or HCN/HCA reporting metrics.
Review of weekly vendor partner receivables/payables activity to support AP function (specific to HCWS).
Assists with annual audit procedures.
Identifies areas of opportunities to streamline and improve accounting processes.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
Eligible to sit for the CPA exam is a plus.
Must be able to work 4 days per week from our Cincinnati, Ohio office.
Strong understanding of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Familiarity with Great Plains, CRM, Concur, PowerBI, and BI360 a plus.
Ability to monitor and collect data to assess accuracy and integrity; analyze data; ensure compliance with applicable standards (i.e. GAAP), rules, regulations and systems of internal control.
Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize workload in order to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be able to work independently.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, especially Excel) - Must have at least 12 months of working experience with Microsoft Excel with knowledge of how to use the auto sum function, add filters, use the vlookup formula, and create pivot tables with the data.
Knowledge with demonstrated ability in use of pivot tables and more complex formulas (Xlookup, SumIf, Index/Match, Power Query) is a plus.
Team player and can collaborate with other teams in the organization.
High level of interpersonal skills with demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy. Must be able to maintain the integrity of confidential information.
Demonstrate a proficient level of professional skill and/or knowledge in accounting and keeps current with developments and trends.
Knowledge and ability to use applicable information technology and systems to meet work need.
Great communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to clearly communicate issues.
