Full job description
Shift Schedule:
Evening Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
Scheduling Rotation:
Each team member works five shifts per week
Weekends are rotated to ensure fairness
The Hospital Assistant I in the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) is responsible for supporting sterilization processes by cleaning and staging surgical case carts, transport totes, and rigid sterilization containers. This role ensures that all equipment is properly decontaminated and prepared for use in surgical procedures while maintaining accurate records in the SPD information system.
Key Responsibilities:
Clean surgical case carts, rigid sterilization containers, and transport totes according to department procedures
Stage cleaned equipment to maintain efficient workflows
Conduct rounds to pick up soiled case carts from various hospital units
Participate in SPD shift huddles and document attendance
Follow infection control policies to ensure a clean, sanitary, and safe work environment
Perform other related duties as assigned

Department Description
UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Excellent customer service skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to read, speak, and understand English
Basic email proficiency
Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and follow protocols
Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
Preferred Qualifications
Previous hospital experience
