Job description, work day and responsibilities
Freshy, a leading NY- and DC-based WordPress web design agency, is looking to hire a remote, full-time backend WordPress developer
Roles and responsibilities
• The candidate must have deep experience in web development and be highly motivated to do exceptional work
• Customizing the functionality of WordPress based websites by implementing new functionality, often via code or additional plugins
• Working with the Freshy support team to add features requests to client websites
• Working with the Freshy project managers and development team to implement creative solutions to solve functionality requests during development of new websites
• Assisting with importing and exporting large amounts of data — such as users, custom post types, WooCommerce products, orders, etc. — sometimes on a recurring basis via cron jobs
• Customizing the WooCommerce functionality — including product pages, filtering, shopping cart, checkout, subscriptions, etc.
• Implementing custom animations and other heavily-modified user interface (UI) designs
• Architect and develop new backend features and plugins, custom functionality, and theme integration
• Customizing/overriding WordPress core and plugin functionality via included hooks
• Implementation of 3rd party APIs into WordPress websites
• Taking initiative and approaching projects with a confident and positive attitude
• Clean, understandable, and well-documented/commented code
• Management of the website back-end including database and server integration
• Creating custom WordPress plugins as needed
• Troubleshooting performance issues and implementing fixes
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts in a simple and understandable way
Requirements
• 5+ years backend-end WordPress development experience
• 5+ years of WooCommerce experience
• WordPress theme and plugin customization experience
• Tech stack includes CSS3, HTML5, advanced jQuery, advanced PHP 8, JSON, SQL
• Knowledge of code versioning tools including Git and SVN
• Knowledge of Composer, NPM, and other build process tools a plus
• Experience integrating 3rd party APIs preferred
• Experience using the command line, SSH, WP-CLI preferred
• Experience writing code with a focus on security and performance
• Deep understanding of WordPress core
• Familiarity with React and WordPress block editor a plus
• Search engine optimization experience preferred
• Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager experience preferred
• WPML, ADA, and GDPR knowledge is a plus
• Excellent problem solving skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent time management, including flexibility with shifting priorities and multiple deadlines
• Ready to work in a fast paced environment
