Overview:
JOB SUMMARY: The Controller will provide dedicated financial leadership for designDATA (dD), a subsidiary within the Doyon Technology Group (DTG) family of companies. DTG provides Shared Services functions, including Finance leadership, to its operating companies. As the day-to-day owner of dD’s finance processes, the Controller will manage accounting operations, work directly with the team on daily tasks and process execution, and partner with both dD leadership and DTG Finance to deliver reliable reporting, strong controls, and strategic insights. This position reports directly to the DTG Controller and maintains a close working relationship with the leader of dD. This role will balance independence in managing dD’s finances with alignment to DTG’s framework, building bridges to ensure consistency, collaboration, and shared success.
Responsibilities:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Accounting Operations & Reporting
Oversee all aspects of dD’s accounting operations, including timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
Actively participate in daily accounting activities (e.g., reconciliations, journal entries, reviews) while working with the team to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and continuous improvement.
Coordinate internal reviews and external audits, ensuring accurate records and timely resolution of findings.
Lead the budget process for dD by coordinating data gathering, consolidating data, validating accuracy, and providing timely insights to leadership.
Partner with DTG Finance and internal stakeholders to provide forecasts, recommendations, and variance analyses, and initiate corrective actions to ensure accurate budget completion and alignment with corporate objectives.
Monitor financial performance (budget vs. actuals, KPIs, and trends) and present insights to dD and DTG leadership.
Prepare special reports and financial analyses to inform decision-making.
Financial Leadership & Governance
Provide financial guidance by actively applying and reinforcing established policies and procedures, while identifying opportunities to improve them in practice.
Protect assets by maintaining strong internal controls and compliance practices and by directly monitoring day-to-day accounting activity to safeguard financial assets and ensure effective risk management.
Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local legal requirements; coordinate with DTG Finance on required filings; and provide timely recommendations to management on compliance matters.
Partner with DTG Finance to align dD’s operations with corporate governance, standards, and reporting requirements.
Collaborate with the DTG Controller on financial and operational changes to ensure consistency with corporate strategy.
Process Improvement & Technology
Continuously evaluate and improve financial workflows, processes, and reporting tools.
Leverage and maintain financial systems and tools to support efficient and accurate operations.
Recommend and implement process improvements aligned with DTG best practices.
Team Leadership & Development
Direct and actively work alongside dD finance team members, providing coaching, feedback, and performance management.
Recruit, select, train, and develop finance staff; plan and monitor workload and results.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the finance team.
Support professional development by encouraging participation in training, workshops, and professional associations.
Confidentiality & Integrity
Maintain confidentiality of financial data, plans, and strategies.
Uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or equivalent business experience.
7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including at least 3 years in a managerial role.
Strong knowledge of GAAP (including ASC842, ASC606, and Fixed Assets management), internal controls, and compliance practices.
Proven success managing accounting operations, audits, and financial reporting cycles.
Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
Skilled in managing cash flow, investments, and financial risk.
Knowledge of federal regulation on taxes and reporting.
