Mechanics Bank is currently searching for a Director of Community Development to join our team. Here at Mechanics Bank, we value connection, partnership, long term relationships and working together in person. This role will be working on-site at our Irvine location.
The Director of Community Partnerships is responsible for developing and implementing the Bank’s community development strategy and outreach activities consistent with the Bank’s Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Program. Responsible for sourcing and identifying CRA qualified grant and volunteer opportunities; making recommendations regarding charitable giving; monitoring the allocation of grants and service activities throughout the Bank’s CRA assessment areas consistent with Program objectives; and validating and documenting all CRA activities for grants and service to ensure compliance with the CRA. Manages overall outreach activities consistent with Mechanics Bank's mission and strategy focus and CRA regulatory requirements. Identifies and directs the development and implementation of CRA grant and outreach initiatives.
What you will be doing:
Establishes annual CRA grant and CD service hour goals aligned with Bank and CRA Program objectives.
Coordinates with other bank teams including Marketing and Retail to achieve goals and objectives.
Develops and manages partnerships with nonprofit and community leaders within the Bank’s assessment areas to facilitate CRA grant and service opportunities to achieve CRA and CIG goals.
Manages Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco AHEAD and matching grant programs.
Leverages CRA relationships into cross selling opportunities for other areas of the Bank.
Infrastructure, Compliance, Data Collection and Reporting – Oversees and directs the creation and implementation of the infrastructure necessary to maintain strong controls and processes to ensure data integrity and accurate reporting of CRA qualified activities.
Monitors, analyzes and reports performance against stated goals and objectives; develops strategies to remediate any performance gaps.
Monitors peer bank performance, public community benefit agreements, regulatory and advocacy trends; informs executive management of trends, risks and opportunities.
Assists with the development of key Program reports including CRA Self-Assessments, Community Needs Assessments and Performance Context.
Provides support related to CRA examinations and audits.
Provides oversight of the Community Development Manager in all applicable CRA data collection, verification and documentation activities.
CRA Training – Directs, maintains and develops specific and general CRA training. Ensures appropriate presentation materials are developed, updated and maintained for all audiences including employees, regulators and the community.
External Leadership –Represents the Bank at a number of community functions, committees, organizations and conferences while serving as a liaison between executive management, community leaders and regulatory agencies. Serves on at least one non-profit board or committee.
Who you are:
Preferred 4 Year / Bachelors Degree Finance, Business Administration or related field
Minimum of 7 years related experience, including demonstrated success in all aspects of CRA compliance, a successful track record of exams and audits, and a successful track record in structured finance and philanthropy.
Experience with Kadince for CRA tracking and reporting.
Strong interpersonal skills combined with analytical and problem-solving skills to monitor the Bank’s performance and develop strategies to ensure achievement of the Bank’s CRA goals and objectives.
Excellent public relations skills and strong desire to promote community development.
Possess good knowledge of bank products in order to match needs with services required.
Possess excellent human relations, communications and business writing skills.
Possess effective time management and organizational skills.
Able to cope with pressure resulting from meeting required deadlines and reporting requirements.
Demonstrate teamwork in facilitating workflow. High level of cooperation with others and responsive to the Bank’s needs.
Exemplary motivation, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Consistently demonstrate tact, discretion and good judgment.
Exhibit high degree of professionalism and confidentiality in handling and having access to sensitive information.

Salary: $110,000-180,000 annually
Final compensation package will be determined by the work experience, education, and/or skill level of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
