Job description
JOB TITLE: Paralegal – Construction
STATUS: Non-Exempt
Type: Full Time
The Paralegal is responsible for providing support to attorneys. Under the direction of an attorney, with minimal supervision assists with all aspects of the construction industry (transactional/litigation for developers, owners, contractors). Must possess a high level of communication skills (written and verbal). Trust, accuracy, and ability to multitask under pressure are important to this position. This is an excellent opportunity for those who excel at managing multiple projects and tasks, proficient at using electronic discovery platforms, contract related software and forms, has an acute attention to detail, and enjoys a professional environment.
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Filing documents in state and federal court.
• Manage case dockets and calendar deadlines.
• Work with outside consultants and experts, including managing files and information exchanged with consultants.
• Maintain and organize case, client, and template files.
• Assist with tracking group work experience and client contact information. Communicating with and responding to clients both orally and through written communications
Qualifications:
• 3+ years of recent construction industry and/or litigation experience required.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, and DocuSign.
• Experience with or desire to learn electronic discovery platforms, such as Relativity and IPro, and assist in collecting and processing documents for discovery.
• Experience with or desire to learn AIA Contracts software and forms and other industry standard contract forms, such as Consensus Docs, EJCDC, etc.
• Excellent proofreading skills.
• Knowledge of or desire to learn construction industry and legal matters.
• Desire to be an important team member of a growing construction team.
• Highly organized and detail oriented.
• Proactive and able to take ownership of work product.
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree minimum or equivalent related work experience.
• ABA approved Paralegal course of study or North Carolina State Paralegal Certification.
