Location: Stevenage (Office base) - travel required throughout the district, Stevenage, Letchworth Garden City and Hitchin.

About The Team

An exciting opportunity to join the busy team of Registrars at Stevenage Register Office. We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and organised person to join us in delivering this vital service to the people of Hertfordshire.

About The Role

The role predominantly involves registering and conducting ceremonies throughout the Stevenage area. The role is variable hours and as such does not guarantee regular hours. It can be very busy during the summer months requiring a commitment of 2 in 4 weekends and Thursdays and Fridays. There is limited opportunity to register life events such as births, deaths and marriages, and the potential to take taking notices of marriage and conducting marriages and civil partnership ceremonies, both in the register office and at licenced venues in the area.

You will need to use excellent communication skills to extract key information and ensure the accuracy of the data recorded. You will also need strong presentation skills to be able to conduct ceremonies ranging from ******** celebrations to those with hundreds of guests.

This role is a variable hour’s position with zero contracted hours. The role is primarily to cover weekday and weekend ceremonies in the Stevenage Registration District, and the number of working days will vary.

There may be an opportunity to train for weekday appointment cover paid hourly, and ceremonial cover is paid at a sessional rate per ceremony.

Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills are essential. A good standard of general education is required, but previous experience is not essential as full training will be given to the right candidate.

Variable mainly Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays

About You

Essential:
• Registration experience with a sound knowledge of registration Law.
• Ability to understand complicated and detailed legislation, rules and procedures and interpret them to customers in emotional and sensitive situations.
• Administrative skills – Must be able record facts and figures accurately.
• Good standard of English and numeracy and the ability to write legibly and to spell correctly
• Good ICT skills – proficient in the use of MS Teams, Word, SharePoint and OneDrive.
• Good Organisational Skills – Ability to organise the work efficiently.
• Good Planning Skills – ability to plan your day, week as necessary.
• Attention to detail methodical approach
• Driving Licence required

Desirable:
• Strong public speaking skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
