Job description, work day and responsibilities
Pay rate: $50 / hr
Must have experience with infection control within a public health setting, ideally working with long term care.
The Public Health Prevention Specialist oversees the planning and implementation of Public Health Prevention programs. Primary responsibilities include oversight of assigned program policy and programmatic, administrative, and evaluation components. The Public Health Prevention Specialist may be responsible for working with other programs in the Department of Public Health Department of Health Services (DHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other public agencies and community organizations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• Works with the Program Director to plan activities to include organize, assign, and coordinate the work of staff responsible for assigned program and policy implementation
• Reviews the work of assigned team members for thoroughness, soundness of recommendations, and compliance with the standards, policies, procedures, and regulations of the CDC as well as the County Department of Public Health
• May serves as the primary point of contact with the CDC
• Provides oral and written progress reports to the Director of DPH and to the Board as indicated per protocols
• Responds to inquiries from DPH’s Executive Team and the Board if applicable
• Directs all external Program related communication activities, and delivers community presentations
• Coordinates and oversees the work of program-related consultants hired to assist with programmatic and policy activities
• Oversees the orientation, training, development, and evaluation of the team
• Works with the Director of Administration to ensure that all program contract and budgetary issues are effectively addressed
• Ensures that the evaluation plan related to the assigned program is developed and implemented in accordance with CDC requirements
• Confers with the Department of Public Health and other funded local health departments both local and across the nation to coordinate activities and share best practices
• Represents DPH at CDC meetings if applicable
• Performs other duties as assigned/necessary
Minimum Requirements
• Licensed as RN or LPN/LVN in state practicing
• Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field required if not licensed RN/LPN/LVN
• Advanced Public Health Nursing Certification (PHNA-BC) preferred
• Master’s Degree from a graduate school with specialization in public health or a related field preferred
• Two (2) years of public health or related field experience required
• One (1) year of highly responsible and complex administrative staff experience preferred
• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
• Participation and completion of Amergis’ Competency program when applicable
• Current CPR if applicable
• TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
• Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site
• Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements
• Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
• Computer proficiency required
• Must be at least 18 years of age
