About the Role

We currently have a permanent fulltime (1.0FTE) Allied Health Assistant position available within the inpatient rehabilitation wards at Waitakere Hospital. In this role you will work within both older adult rehabilitation and the adult Integrated Stroke Unit. You will provide therapy, motivation and support to a variety of adult patients, carrying out a range of tasks and activities to support them in their rehabilitation journey.

This role involves working with an interdisciplinary team, supporting and assisting Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Therapists. You will carry out prescribed rehabilitation programmes with patients, in the therapy gym or on the wards, under the guidance of the inter-disciplinary team. These programmes will be individual to the patient and will be focused on the patient’s goals and may be completed with therapists, in a group session, or one to one. The programmes may include supporting patients with exercises or activities to improve their day to day function, independence and communication. Some of the things you may support a patient to do are to make their breakfast by themselves again, do balance and strength exercises, or have a supported conversation in a group session; to name a few! You will also support equipment provision as guided by therapists.

We are seeking a dedicated, honest, hard-working and reliable individual who has previous experience within a healthcare environment and working as part of a team. You must have excellent communication skills, strong time management and be proactive in your approach. You need to be able to work Monday to Friday (7.30 – 4.00pm or 8.00 – 4.30pm) and ideally must hold a current full NZ Driver’s License.
