Are you a numbers whizz with a passion for the arts? YMCA Leicestershire’s, Y Theatre is looking for a meticulous and organised book keeper to help keep the finances in top shape. If you love balancing the finances as much as supporting a vibrant charity and a thriving cultural space, then this could be the perfect role for you.

Position: Book keeper

Salary: £16,943 pro-rata per annum (£28,238 FTE)

Hours of work: A minimum of 24-hours per week, worked flexibly to suit your schedule (Core Hours 10am to 4pm)

Location: East Street, Leicester

Closing date: 08th August 2025

About the role:

As a Bookkeeper here at YMCA Leicestershire, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for the Y Theatre, ensuring timely payments, and supporting the financial health of the Theatre. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with experience in financial management who thrives in a creative and dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities will include:

Assisting the Theatre & Arts Manager, Deputy Manager and Events Coordinator in the day-to-day management of the financial operations for the Theatre department, including room hire and Y Leisure.

To assist in the provision of timely and relevant financial reports to the Theatre & Arts Manager and any relevant external bodies.

To support the Deputy Chief Executive Officer in providing efficient and effective administration of the finance department, working closely with other members of the finance department to ensure departmental needs are met.

A strong attention to details and excellent numerical skills
A proactive and organised approach to managing workload
The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues
A passion for the arts and entertainment industry
To succeed in the role of Book keeper, your key skills will include:

A financial or book keeping qualification is desired but not essential
Proven experience in book keeping, finance or accounting or a Graduate sandwich course with 1 year in a Finance Function
Proficiency in SAGE accounting software
Minimum level 2/GCSE in Maths and English

The Y Theatre is a bustling live performance venue based in Leicester city Centre. Our eclectic programme includes music, comedy, theatre, dance, new work and family shows. The 300-seat theatre also comfortably hosts candle-lit cabaret style events and standing gigs. Built in 1900, The Y is the oldest surviving Victorian theatre in Leicester.
