THE ROLE:
As a Data Analyst at NZME, you’ll be focused on designing clear, impactful Power BI dashboards and visualisations that support business growth and audience engagement. You’ll also be responsible for delivering reliable data models and insights, owning end-to-end data transformations using SQL, BigQuery, and Dataform. Working closely with stakeholders, you’ll ensure your data solutions follow best practices and drive real impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting and dashboards:
Build automated Dashboards to surface information to internal teams. You will use tools such as Power BI and Google Looker Studio
Work with other Data and Analytics Team members to identify opportunities to automate data pipelines and reports and implement best practices
Analysis and Insights
Work closely with internal business owners to understand user behaviours across NZME’s websites as well as business models and requirements.
Liaise with development teams to develop and maintain analytics tags to ensure key events are captured.
Analyse web and behavioural data to provide advice and recommendations to NZME teams. Eg. Analyse audience engagement and channel impact on article and e-commerce performance.
Provide data led recommendations to NZME teams to help them move the needle on their KPI’s.
Data Modelling & Transformation
Own end-to-end data transformations using SQL, BigQuery, and Dataform, ensuring robust and scalable data pipelines
Proactively identify data discrepancies and gaps in collection; propose improvements to tracking and processes
Web Analytics & Tracking
Utilise tools like Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager for tracking setup, validation, and data accuracy
Work closely with digital teams to implement tracking solutions aligned with analytics goals
Collaboration & Mentoring
Partner with cross-functional teams (sales, marketing, product) to gather requirements and deliver insights aligned to key objectives
Ensure data reliability, manage alerts, and take corrective actions to maintain integrity in analysis
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Tertiary qualified – statistics, applied mathematics, computer or data science.
3+ years of data and web analytics experience preferred.
Hands-on experience with Dataform or similar tools for data transformation (e.g., dbt) is advantageous
A critical thinker with an analytical and curious mind-set with the ability to explain complex problems and solutions to business users.
Experience with Google Tag Manager or other tag management platforms is advantageous.
Experience with BI products such as Google Datastudio and Power BI essential.
Experience with the Google Cloud Platform preferred.
Team player with a sense of humour and a positive attitude.
You’ll be an effective communicator and will keep managers and colleagues updated on all necessary information.
