Full job description
WONDER. LIVES. HERE.

River Valley School is an independent school providing unparalleled education and character development for children aged 3 to grade 6. Our vision is to curate opportunities for learning and discovery that are as dynamic as the world around us. We are a growing school with approximately 310 students within Bowness, Calgary, Alberta.

RVS students experience opportunities for hands-on learning and connections with the real world. We focus on high student achievement, but also on supporting the individual and their overall well-being and development. We are not an exclusive, one-size-fits-all school. How we teach students is determined by who they are, how they learn, and what engages them.

RVS is seeking a passionate, imaginative, and dedicated Junior Kindergarten Teacher to become an integral part of our close-knit and energetic early childhood team, specifically within our 4-year-old classroom. The ideal candidate is someone who cherishes the distinct talents of every child, crafts a safe, stimulating, and innovative learning environment, and is driven to make a lasting positive impact on young lives. Prior experience working with preschool-aged children is a definite asset. Importantly, Alberta Child Care certification level 2 or 3 is a prerequisite for this role.

Your Role and Responsibilities:

As a Preschool Teacher at RVS, you will:

Exhibit exceptional professional expertise in planning engaging lessons, delivering effective instruction, conducting thoughtful student assessments, and providing comprehensive reports, all while being attuned to and addressing the diverse needs of each student.
Nurture positive and meaningful relationships with students, grounded in respect for their individual worth.
Foster open and productive communication with students, parents, and fellow educators.
Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth and development.
Implement effective classroom management strategies that maximize every student's learning potential.
Collaborate effectively as a team member in shaping and implementing the school's overarching philosophy, goals, and objectives.
Prepare thorough accident reports for the Principal should any incident or injury occur.
Adhere diligently to all Alberta Ministry of Child Care Services licensing requirements.
Meet or exceed the standards outlined in Alberta's early learning framework, "Play, Participation, and Possibilities."
Maintain organized timetables, clear instructional plans, and accurate class lists.
Ensure a well-ordered and disciplined learning environment.
Collaborate with other professionals to develop specific evaluation and reporting procedures.
Attend required meetings, including faculty, division, department, and committee meetings, as well as scheduled evening parent meetings and events.
What You Bring:

Possession of a valid Alberta Child Care certification (Level 2 or 3).
Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and time management abilities.
A proven ability to establish a learning environment where students feel physically safe, emotionally secure, socially connected, and culturally valued.
The capacity to build positive professional relationships with students characterized by mutual respect, trust, and harmony, while upholding their human dignity.
As a condition of employment at River Valley School, all successful candidates must provide proof of a satisfactory Police Clearance with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Thank you for considering a career at River Valley School. Only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
