Job Title: Lower School Assistant Teacher
Reports To: Head of Lower School
FLSA Status: Non-exempt (Position includes daily overtime pay)
Salary Range: $20-23.75 per hour. Salary based on years of experience and educational credentials.
We seek a full-time Lower School Assistant Teacher for the 2025-26 school year, starting August, 2025.
Open positions may include a variety of specialty subjects. All Assistant Teachers work in our Extended
Day Programs until 5:30 p.m. each school day.

Job Summary
We are looking for beginning teachers who are compelled by the school’s mission and committed to
the development and maintenance of leading an inquiry based, conceptual, and hands-on programs.
Teachers at Mirman School support differentiation in our students’ curiosities and passions with cross-
curricular integration. Teachers are also engaged in regular collaboration, curriculum development,
and pedagogical reflection.

Assistant Teachers are part of Mirman’s professional faculty and are considered teachers in training
for gifted children. Assistant Teachers are involved in an educational endeavor similar to a teacher
credentialing program or advanced degree to further their professional growth.
As part of the teaching faculty, Assistant Teachers create a flexible and dynamic elementary
classroom environment and program favorable to learning and personal growth for highly gifted
children; establish effective rapport with students, parents, and colleagues; nurture passions and
talents of students; develop each child’s skills, attitudes and knowledge needed in a strong foundation
for elementary grade education in accordance with each student’s ability.
Essential Job Functions
Work directly with an assigned Lead Teacher who will serve as a mentor utilizing instructional
best practices, methods, materials and technology
Responsible for assigned supervision duties
Responsible to assist in planning and implementing class lessons as needed
Assist with the instruction of small groups, individual students and the class as a whole to
further differentiate curriculum and support students
Demonstrate culturally competent skills in educational program design and delivery
Cultivate and model a respectful, safe, creative, and invigorating classroom
Demonstrate effective and respectful management of classroom culture using social-emotional
learning skills and strategies, such as Responsive Classroom
Participate in a wide variety of school-related events, initiatives, and engagements
Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with other teachers and assistant teachers
throughout all grade levels on campus to strengthen community and student experience
Demonstrate the ability to build immediate and loving rapport with children of all ages; including
a passion for teaching and working with students from all communities
Exhibit the qualities of an adult learner dedicated to their professional growth
Exhibit enthusiasm and commitment to the vision, mission and guiding principles of the school
Maintain a sense of humor and commitment, high ethical professional standards, and
equity perspective
Demonstrate excellent organization, time management and follow-through skills
Exhibit the ability to work as part of a team
Participate in all Professional Development opportunities made available on the school campus
Attend all full faculty meetings and division level meetings on Wednesdays from 7:45-8:45 a.m.

Job Qualifications:
Commitment to ongoing learning about implementing Gifted Education best practices
Commitment to creating a sense of belonging by upholding our Statement of Inclusivity
BA/BS Degree required
Some prior experience teaching in a classroom
Experience working with highly gifted children preferred
Previous experience with Lower School students preferred
Strong writing and communication skills
Strong proficiency with technology and an ability to use technology effectively in the classroom including
Google Suite
Strong work ethic with a growth mindset and able to learn new skills quickly
First Aid and CPR training required (training provided if not currently certified)
Valid CA driver license and clear criminal background investigation
