Overview:

Job Purpose:

Under the direction of the Director of Marketing and Community Engagement, the Graphic Designer is responsible for the design and production of high-quality visual content that supports the promotion of the District’s programs, services, and facilities across both print and digital platforms. This position plays a key role in maintaining and evolving the Park District’s brand, and in ensuring consistent, effective, and engaging communications across all platforms.

Essential Functions:

Design and produce print marketing materials such as direct mail pieces, flyers, posters, signage, advertisements, booklets, banners, and seasonal program guides.
Prepare files for print production and liaise with vendors to ensure quality output and timely delivery.
Assist with developing digital content for PDOP’s website, social media, and electronic newsletters.
Lead the layout and design of the District’s seasonal program guides, working closely with programming and marketing staff to meet production deadlines.
Collaborate with internal departments to design targeted marketing for programs, events, and facilities.
Contribute short-form copywriting and editing to enhance the clarity and impact of design pieces, including headlines, captions, and calls-to-action, ensuring each piece is both visually and verbally effective and error-free.
Ensure visual consistency and brand integrity across all communication channels by adhering to established brand guidelines.
Contribute to brainstorming and planning meetings and support special projects as assigned.
Stay up to date on industry trends, tools, and best practices in design.
Attend staff meetings as necessary.
Additional Functions:

Attends and assists in coordination of materials for special events including groundbreakings, ribbon cutting ceremonies, Day in Our Village, 4th of July Parade and others as identified.
Follows safety practices and procedures.
Knowledge, Skills, and Work Experience Required:

Associate or bachelor’s degree in graphic design, Communications, Marketing, Electronic Media/Fine Arts, Digital Media, or related field.
One to three years’ experience in graphic design and print productions.
Advanced knowledge of graphic design and desktop publishing software for a PC including Adobe CC Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Publisher, Microsoft Office.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment and effectively prioritizing and managing multiple projects at once with attention to detail, while setting and meeting demanding deadlines.
Written and oral communication skills, including proofreading and editing.
Able to turn brief prompts into creative concepts.
Certification in advanced Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 3 months of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.
Interpersonal skills.
Customer service focus.
Recommended:

Videography and editing experience.
Photography experience.
Work Environment, Physical Demands and Considerations:

In-office work required.
Frequently – Sitting, walking, standing, typing.
Occasionally – Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling.
Strength – Work requires handling average weight (up to 20 lbs.) materials or equipment.
Other requirements may include talking, hearing, and seeing to perform the following necessary duties: Operate assigned office equipment including, but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, calculators, telephones, LCD projector, camera, scanner, and other audio-visual equipment as needed.
Normal office conditions for majority of work; may include occasional light and temperature variations.
Prolonged hours seated at a desk.
Prolonged hours of computer use.
May be exposed to occasional inclement weather as position may require temporary outdoor work.
Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a clear and concise verbal and written manner.
Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively.
Ability to perform duties with initiative, sound judgment, persistence, integrity, tact and courtesy.
Ability to build relationships with the public, customers, internal managers and staff, and volunteers, as well as external vendors and providers to ensure smooth-running operations.
