Job Title: Union Campaign Digital Organizer

Salary: Commensurate on Experience

Location: Toronto, or Vancouver area office

The Service Employees International Union 2 (SEIU 2) is a 20,000-member organization that represents workers in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. We are currently seeking a Union Campaign Digital Organizer.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a dynamic and effective Union Campaign Digital Organizer to run engaging issue campaigns online, in tandem with the union’s efforts to attract new union members, strengthen the bargaining power of existing members, and run public advocacy campaigns that advance the rights of workers in Canada. This job will require expertise with social media and social media campaigns, including, but not limited to advertising and familiarity with various social media platform best practices.

The Union Campaign Digital Organizer will also be Local 2’s administrator and staff point person for Action Network, our e-mail and online action platform. They will administer our texting platform (currently Hustle) and assist the Communications Coordinator in other communications tasks as needed.

Responsibilities:

Advertising (Paid Media)
a) Collaborate with field and political organizers to define digital advertising goals aligned with broader organizing campaign objectives.

b) Develop and implement A/B testing protocols to optimize ad creative, copy, placements, and targeting.

c) Coordinate with the Communications Director to draft responses to public comments on ads.

d) Monitor ads and associated engagement daily to identify opportunities to improve performance or initiate organizing conversations.

Organic Social Media
a) Develop and maintain a monthly social media content calendar, aiming for at least one post per day. Posts should tie into organizing-related calls to action (CTAs) whenever possible and include a variety of formats:

i. Videos and reels

ii. Photos with quotes

iii. Memes and trending content adapted to labor/worker rights messages

iv. Article links

v. Coalition and solidarity content

b) Monitor and respond to social media comments and direct messages. Escalate issues or opportunities to relevant organizers or the Communications Coordinator.

c) Draft and publish rapid-response posts to supplement the pre-scheduled calendar as events unfold.

d) Prewrite and schedule posts in support of live or in-person events as needed.

e) Conduct a monthly performance analysis of organic content, measuring engagement, shares, and CTA conversion rates. Use findings to improve future content strategy.

Data Management
a) Create and maintain UTM tracking links for all digital channels, including organic posts, ads, texts, and emails.

b) Set up and maintain automations that link all digital CTAs (ads, petitions, sign-ups, etc.) to the campaign’s database/CRM (typically Action Network), ensuring seamless follow-up.

c) Collaborate with organizing staff to develop and maintain a robust tagging and lead assessment system that supports automated follow-up, leadership identification, and turf prioritization.

Digital Leads and Leadership Development
a) Create and manage automated follow-up sequences (via email and SMS) for new digital leads, tailored by lead type and their previous interactions (as defined by CRM tags).

b) Identify and cultivate potential digital leaders from a variety of sources:

i. Digital leads

ii. Survey respondents

iii. Active commenters or content sharers

iv. Organizer referrals

c) Design and lead regular (monthly or quarterly) digital leadership trainings for identified digital leaders and internal staff, covering topics such as:

i. Best practices for digital content creation and amplification

ii. Online organizing conversations

iii. Platform-specific strategy

iv. Other digital tools, as needed, based on campaign priorities

Action Network & Texting Platform Point Person
a) Manage the SEIU Local 2 emailing and texting platforms including creating new groups as needed, manage admin permissions, maintaining the tags/fields archive spreadsheet, track usage analytics., etc.

b) Manage the National Level Groups including setting up actions, sending email and tracking analytics.

c) Support SEIU staff at all levels in their use of the platforms including training, updating about new features, helping them to set up actions/send emails & texts/pull reports.

d) Coordinate with data specialist to ensure up to date data in the platforms.

General Comms Support
a) Assist the Communications coordinator as needed in media relations work, website builds and updates, lit development, etc.

Qualifications:

Demonstrated passion for progressive politics and social justice.
Previous experience in field organizing and a commitment to working in the field to capture content.
Familiarity with a range of online campaigning tools, tactics and strategies.
Knowledge of trends and technologies used in digital organizing including platforms like Facebook, Instagram, BlueSky, TikTok, etc.
Ability to create Meta and Google ads.
Previous experience in online organizing, political campaigns, and/or customer service very advantageous but not required.
While experience with Action Network is preferred, training can be provided.
Creative and loves problem-solving.
Ability to write concisely, clearly and quickly.
Experience with Adobe Suite (basic graphic and layout design skills in Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop or online program like Canva); WordPress sites (basic HTML a bonus), and Microsoft Office.
Ability to work independently, take a concept and run with it, while keeping team members in the loop on progress and feedback or support needed.
Able to set ambitious but achievable work goals and be held to hitting these metrics.
Bilingual in French strongly preferred.
Required to work long and varying hours including weekends, nights and holidays.
Requires constant use of independent judgment, self-motivation, and capability of doing all the above duties with minimal supervision.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per hour
