We manage over 5,000 apartment units and 250,000 square feet of office space, and we continue to grow with the addition of fee managed communities and new acquisitions.
Position Summary
The Accountant is responsible for managing all aspects of bookkeeping, the month-end closing process, financial statement preparation, and applicable projects for an assigned group of properties within our portfolio of real estate communities.
Essential Job Functions
1. Manages bookkeeping function by tracking and analyzing all expenses and income for an assigned group of properties
2. Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
3. Oversees month-end closing process for assigned properties including the preparation of general ledger entries and month-end accruals
4. Performs monthly variance analysis, journal entries, and general ledger reconciliations
5. Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as required
Required Qualifications
Education, Training and or/ Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with one plus years of accounting experience. Experience in residential and commercial property management accounting is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Personal Characteristics
1. General knowledge and understanding of accounting principles with an ability to read and interpret financial statements
2. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
3. Ability to work both independently and as part of a cohesive team
4. Strong knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Excel; proficiency with residential property management technology programs such as MRI is a plus
5. Ability to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously, and meet established deadlines
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicates easily with all levels of employees, tenants, and customers
7. Displays a positive, friendly and professional attitude with a strong focus on customer service
Physical Demands
The nature of work requires an ability to communicate and exchange information, prepare work documents, and operate standard business office equipment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a general office environment and apartment community. Weekend work and some evening work may be required during peak seasons.
