Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for a proactive and community-minded Waste Services Officer – Public Spaces to help deliver high-quality waste services across Tauranga. This role focuses on litter bin servicing, litter control, illegal dumping response, and asset management—making a visible difference in the places we live, work, and play.

As part of our Waste Operations & Compliance team, you’ll:

Monitor and manage public litter bins to ensure timely servicing, maintenance, and replacement.
Conduct site inspections and audits of contracted services, using data to inform planning and improvements.
Optimise bin placement based on community needs and usage trends.
Respond to litter hotspots and illegal dumping reports, coordinating with contractors and community groups.
Support enforcement actions in collaboration with the Bylaws team.
Engage with stakeholders and the public to promote responsible waste behaviour and environmental initiatives.

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To succeed in this role you’ll be someone who’s organised, solutions-focused, and confident working independently. You’ll also have:

A tertiary qualification in Waste Operations, Environmental Management, or Contract Management.
3+ years’ experience in waste operations, environmental services, or a related field.
Strong problem-solving and organisational skills.
Advanced MS Office skills and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when managing sensitive customer interactions.
A current full NZ driver’s licence.
Flexibility to support other team members when needed.
