Are you passionate about shaping the academic journey of future leaders? We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Academic Advisor to join our esteemed team in the Faculty of Education. As an integral part of our team, you’ll play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting both undergraduate and graduate students through their academic endeavors.
What You’ll Do:
Make Independent Admission Decisions: Utilizing established requirements and guidelines, you will independently evaluate and make admission decisions for undergraduate applicants to various University programs while considering enrollment numbers and requisites.
Customized Student Strategies: Develop tailored strategies to assist students who may not meet academic eligibility criteria to continue in their program, fostering their success through personalized approaches.
Academic Records Evaluation: Conduct formal reviews and evaluations of students’ academic records to ensure eligibility for program continuation and graduation.
Degree Audit Maintenance: Create, modify, and maintain accurate master and customized degree audits that reflect current and past degree requirements, ensuring compliance and progress tracking.
Academic Advising: Counsel students to ensure their course and program selections align with established academic, prerequisite, and graduation requirements, facilitating informed decision-making.
Transcript Evaluation and Transfer Credit Assessment: Evaluate transcripts from students seeking transfers from other academic institutions, determining equivalencies and application to degree programs. Assess the legitimacy of claims for additional transfer credits made by applicants from diverse educational backgrounds, nationally and internationally.
Recruitment Event Preparation: Select, train, and prepare students and staff participating in recruitment events, ensuring accurate information dissemination about program options and admission criteria.
Awards Coordination: Oversee and meticulously coordinate all aspects related to awards, bursaries, and scholarships within the Faculty of Education, ensuring equitable distribution and efficient administration for students.
Application Review Expertise: Thoroughly review scholarship, award, and research grant applications. Offer expert advice on organizational structure, formatting, tone, adherence to guidelines, and budgeting, empowering applicants to submit top-quality applications.
Committee Consultation: Collaborate and provide consultation, as needed, with the Faculty of Education Admissions, Studies & Scholarships for Undergraduate Programs Committee and the Faculty of Education Graduate Scholarship & Awards Committee. Contribute insights for ranking and recommendations of student awards.
Website Management: Update and maintain the Faculty of Education’s website to ensure accurate and up-to-date information regarding available awards, bursaries, and scholarships for students.

Position Requirements
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
A four-year University degree
Minimum of five years’ related experience in a post-secondary environment.
A combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in this Role:
Working knowledge of the organization, operation, and registration procedures.
Ability to define, analyze, evaluate, and interpret information.
Critical thinker and solutions focused
Experience with providing sound academic advice and interpreting academic policy is considered an asset.
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills with a demonstrated ability to work with faculty, staff, and students from around the world with tact and diplomacy.
Commitment to establishing working relationships across campus constituencies.
Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Strong communication, time management and organizational skills.
Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel, including features such as databases and pivot tables.
Basic experience with web content management software.
Basic experience with database software including data entry and report generation.
Basic experience with student registration systems.
Strong knowledge base of University policies and procedures and understanding of all programs.
Honesty, integrity and commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team of highly motivated and experienced individuals.

Pay Grade APT 4 Salary Range $64,7+6.00 - $87,436 Annually Status Term Work Hours
The Office of Student Services is open 8:15 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
May be required to work outside of regular operating hours to meet particular requirements of the unit.
