Civil Utility Worker/Operator

Full job description
As a Civil Utility Worker, you will support our team with laying electrical cables, installing high-voltage equipment, and removing outdated gear. Based at our Arwen depot in Auckland, you will help deliver and install electrical assets across Greater Auckland, working closely with our sub-division and electrical teams. You will also play a key role in maintaining safety by identifying hazards and stopping unsafe work when necessary. This role reports to the Field Services Manager – Underground Connections and Civil.

Perform manual tasks like digging, backfilling, and installing cables and equipment
Organise your tasks to manage productivity effectively
Identify hazards and set up safe worksites following safety practices
Contribute to toolbox talks and help implement safety controls
Check and maintain Northpower equipment to ensure it’s in top condition
Safely transport materials and gear to worksites.

About you:

A valid class 1 NZ driver’s licence; Class 2,4,5 would be an advantage
A minimum of 12 months experience in physical or labouring type role
Experience working in or around electricity network in NZ preferred but not essential
Valuable knowledge of Vector’s working requirements and installation standards
Experience working on the Vector network not essential but an advantage
Physically fit and be able to lift heavy weights up to 20Kg
A great work attitude and willingness to be part of a diverse team along with a strong focus to health & safety
Ability to work calmly under pressure and communicate well and proven reliability
