Millar + Howard Workshop, (MHW), based near Stroud, Gloucestershire are
looking for an enthusiastic Architect to join their team. (Maternity Cover)
Tech savvy rural practice is looking for an architect to join it’s team on a fixed term
contract, (maternity cover).
Recent projects include tree-houses, wedding venues,
work on listed buildings & eco hotel spaces. These sit alongside a solid body of
crafted built work including unique one-off houses, multi house custom build
schemes and various innovative public and commercial buildings.
MHW wants to work with the most creative and exciting minds in and around
architecture. We have an agenda for culture change towards net zero, biodiversity
revitalisation, and the deep connection of people and place. We use innovative
technology where we can to further this. To change culture, you also need to tell
great stories.
With an increasing range of exciting projects and areas of research, we
are looking for a Part 3 on a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. The fixed
term would be a minimum of six months but could be extended up to twelve months.
This could suit a newly qualified architect who is up for, and fantastic at, telling great
stories though their architecture, and who are excited by occupying the sometimes
unnerving space at the edge of innovation.
We are a busy small practice, working out of the top floor of an old listed mill building
in the Stroud Valleys; a beautiful and vibrant area in the heart of the Cotswolds,
recently vote best place to live in the UK by the Sunday Times.
Our office uses Vectorworks, Revit, Sketchup, Blender and Unreal Engine.

– With excellent design and graphical skills including the ability to develop
visuals for project using 3D computer modelling
– Keen to contribute to the collaborative and friendly studio culture
– Who are enthusiastic and show initiative
– Have good written and spoken English skills and the ability to communicate
with the team, clients and collaborators
– Individuals with experience working in a design led practice with a passion for
innovation and craft.
– Confident working independently and taking on high levels of responsibility
– Working knowledge of the UK Building Regulations and Plan of Works
– Current driving licence with access to a car due to rural nature of projects

Salary: our part 3 qualified banding starts at £29,000 per annum
Start Date: We are ideally looking for someone who could start in November 2024, however there is some flexibility for the right candidate.
Location: The office is based in a characterful converted mill building along a canal
in the Golden Valley of the beautiful Cotswolds, percolating in a rich cultural heritage
of art, craft, and industry. Please note that this role is office based and that we are in
a rural location with limited public transport.
