Full job description
Our Emergency Department Reception team plays a vital role in supporting patients, clinical staff, and the smooth running of the service by delivering a high-quality, 24-hour administrative and reception function.
We are looking for a reliable, organised, and compassionate individual with strong communication skills, computer literacy, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. You must be confident dealing with the public and able to remain calm under pressure.
This is a dynamic and rewarding role where no two days are the same. Full training will be provided for the right candidate.
You will be required to work a 24-hour shift rota, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and bank holidays. Full details will be discussed at interview.
As a key member of the Emergency Department administration team, you will be responsible for greeting and registering patients, managing telephone enquiries, and providing general administrative support to patients and clinical staff.
You will need excellent attention to detail, a professional and empathetic manner, and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks in a busy and sometimes unpredictable environment.
You will be expected to work flexibly and collaboratively, using your initiative to manage your workload and deliver a consistent, high-quality service to patients and staff alike.

As an A&E Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for patients and visitors, playing a key role in ensuring a smooth and professional service.
Key responsibilities include:
Welcoming and registering patients on arrival
Accurately entering patient details onto hospital systems
Printing ID labels and patient documentation
Handling telephone enquiries politely and efficiently
Supporting clinical teams with administrative tasks
Prioritising workload during busy and high-pressure periods
Maintaining a tidy, organised, and safe reception area
Acting with professionalism, empathy, and discretion at all times
