Job Description

At Orion Health, we’re redefining how healthcare works for everyone. We believe in empowering people, unifying data, and unlocking insights that make a real difference – because behind every health record is a human story.

We’re on the lookout for an inquisitive, driven thinker to join us as a Performance Engineer. Whether you’re just launching your career or bringing years of experience to the table, if you’ve got the right mindset, a hunger for solving tough problems, and a passion for performance, we want to hear from you.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you’ll help us solve real-world performance challenges across our platforms. You’ll get stuck into everything from hands-on testing to automation, tuning, and insightful analysis. Your day-to-day will involve:

Driving performance investigations across distributed and complex systems, leveraging deep technical expertise and cross-functional collaboration to uncover and resolve issues.
Building and maintaining automated performance tests using best-practice tooling, ensuring code is robust, source-controlled, and aligned with established standards and frameworks.
Continuously monitoring and interpreting system performance metrics, not just to detect issues, but to anticipate them, connecting the dots across telemetry to uncover underlying patterns, root causes, and opportunities for optimisation. You'll apply structured problem-solving techniques to frame complex issues clearly, test assumptions, and move from symptoms to solutions with purpose.
Translating system behaviour into actionable insights using logs, traces, and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) - while also recognising gaps in telemetry and working with teams to define and instrument the right signals.
Developing and owning performance-related automation, from CI-integrated test execution to deployment playbooks and infrastructure configurations that support scalable, reproducible testing.
Producing high-quality technical documentation and performance reports that clearly communicate findings, root causes, and recommended actions.
Collaborating with developers, DevOps, product owners, and QA in an Agile environment to guide performance-related decisions from design to release.
What you will bring to the role:

Experience: You will bring a solid technical foundation, whether from software development, technical testing, or a site reliability/DevOps background. We're looking for someone who thrives on solving complex technical problems, even with incomplete or imperfect data. You should be confident in analysing logs, metrics, workflows, and systems behaviour to form sound technical hypotheses, proxy missing insights where needed, and validate conclusions through experimentation or measurement.
Technical Skills: You’ll have a solid foundation in programming with Java, Python, or similar languages, and experience working with enterprise databases such as Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server. Hands-on exposure to performance testing tools like Gatling, JMeter, or K6 is essential. Experience with browser performance testing, using tools like Sitespeed.io, WebPageTest, or Selenium-based frameworks, is a plus. Familiarity with observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) and a strong grasp of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP will set you apart.
Characteristics: Curiosity and drive matter most. You take pride in producing high-quality, reliable work, with a sharp attention to detail that ensures nothing slips through the cracks. You enjoy digging deep to understand how systems behave, identifying bottlenecks, and crafting smart, scalable solutions. You care about getting things right, not just 'done', and favour pragmatic approaches and proven tools over unnecessary reinvention. A collaborative team player, you value clear communication, work iteratively, and bring an agile, growth-oriented mindset. And of course, you appreciate a good laugh along the way.
Don’t tick every box? That’s okay. If this sounds like a role you’d thrive in, let’s chat – we’ll help you grow into it.
