Mission Contribution: The Accountant of the Market on Melrose ensures accurate financial record-keeping and compliance with GAAP, playing a critical role in the financial operations of the grocery business segment. This position supports Goodwill’s mission by safeguarding assets, driving financial efficiency, and providing strategic financial guidance.

Summary: The Accountant of the Market manages the financial activities of the grocery business segment, including financial analysis, reporting, and compliance with GAAP and corporate policies. This role supports business segment leadership by providing accurate financial insights, guiding short- and long-term growth strategies, and ensuring the integrity of financial reporting to optimize performance and profitability.

Essential Functions:

Manages daily financial operations of the grocery business segment, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with GAAP and organizational policies.
Conducts daily reconciliations of Market reports to bank deposits, investigating discrepancies and ensuring alignment with accounting standards.
Reviews Market financial statements during month-end close; researches and communicates unusual variances and participates in review discussions with senior leadership as needed.
Analyzes financial and operational results to identify opportunities for improving profitability, reducing inefficiencies, and enhancing cash flow.
Collaborates with senior management to support the preparation of budgets and ongoing financial forecasts.
Implements strategic financial plans that align with organizational goals and drive long-term efficiency and growth.
Prepares accurate operational and financial reports by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing relevant data and key performance indicators.
Compiles and distributes daily, weekly, and monthly financial reporting to appropriate stakeholders.
Researches and resolves accounting and financial inquiries, interpreting data and providing clear, actionable insights.
Establishes and maintains effective financial systems, processes, and controls to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with GAAP and company policy.

Participate in training sessions, meetings, and company-related events as required.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret and convey complex financial information, accounting reports, and operational documents clearly and professionally.
Responds effectively and appropriately to sensitive inquiries or complaints, ensuring compliance with policies and promoting positive interactions.
Analyzes large data sets and builds detailed financial models to support forecasting, budgeting, and strategic decision-making.
Applies advanced mathematical and analytical techniques, including variance analysis and statistical forecasting, to assess and improve business performance.
Uses sound reasoning and critical thinking to evaluate and resolve a wide range of financial and operational challenges.
Interprets and utilizes nonverbal data representations such as formulas, equations, and graphs to analyze both abstract and practical financial trends.
Demonstrates proficiency in financial software applications; experience with advanced tools and systems preferred.
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
Requires a minimum of three to five years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, variance analysis, and budgeting.
Must be able to successfully complete any assigned Goodwill training within the required period of time upon employment.
Special Requirements:

Reliable transportation is required to commute to and from the store for scheduled shifts.
Open availability for all scheduled shifts, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as needed to meet business demands.
Personal vehicle usage is required for this position, including a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to provide proof of insurance for driving on company business.
An acceptable motor vehicle record, based on Goodwill guidelines, is required for driving a personal or company vehicle.
Must provide a cell phone for specified work responsibilities, including the use of a phone-based application for authentication.
A high-speed, reliable broadband internet connection is required for job functions.
Must successfully complete a state background investigation and drug screen.
Flexibility in work hours may be required during month-end and year-end closing periods.

Frequent travel to various community locations, participant job sites, and employer meetings within the organization's service area
